About the Gunsmith:
Northwoods Gunsmithing, LLC started as the result of a decades-long passion for firearms. Adam grew up in a home that was dominated by a love for firearms, hunting, and the outdoors which has remained with him throughout his life. Gunsmithing became an interest of Adam’s early on and has been pursued as a hobby for his enjoyment over the last 3 decades. This has included building AR15 rifles from individual parts, modifying personal commercially manufactured firearms, and even building personal semi-custom centerfire rifle builds (which include wildcat and now-obsolete calibers) that have been used successfully on western hunts to harvest game.
Adam’s main interest is in hunting and he has a passion for the quality of the older firearms, many of which are no longer in production and many more that no longer have parts or manufacturer support. With the influx of imported “cheap” metal and inexpensively priced firearms flooding the market, Adam’s concern is primarily with maintaining, repairing, and keeping in good working order, the quality “old-school” firearms of our fathers and great-grandfathers.
Northwoods Gunsmithing is not a “Custom Firearms” or “Precision Firearms” shop. We are a General Gunsmithing Shop that focuses on the “Maintenance, Parts, and Repair” of everyday normal hunting and shooting firearms. Adam’s interest is to keep American families shooting at the range and hunters harvesting game in the fields.
The Reason for Opening Shop:
Northwoods Gunsmithing did not begin because there were no qualified gunsmiths in the area. On the contrary, the Wausau area community is served by a few very good and experienced smiths, both of whom Adam is acquainted with and highly commends. Northwoods Gunsmithing, LLC is not intended to be a competition but a complement to these veteran smiths and the Gunsmithing industry as the need for certified gunsmiths has expeditiously increased.
The increased need for gunsmiths became realized during the time that Adam worked in the firearm sales industry. It was during his time in sales that COVID-19 hit and sales of firearms skyrocketed. It couldn’t be helped but to observe that with this influx of firearms in circulation and use, there would come a time when maintenance and repair of these new acquisitions would become a growing need. It is estimated that there are 409,820,500 million legally owned firearms in the US. There are approximately 4,500 registered gunsmiths in the US. This means that there are 91,071 firearms for every registered gunsmith. If only 10% of those need attention at any given time then each of those registered gunsmiths would be busy servicing 9,107 of those firearms at any given time. So, this is why Northwoods Gunsmithing, LLC was formed. A huge need is being pursued by a huge passion.
